Most of the city of Cedar Hill is located in southwest Dallas County; however, there is a small section of the city that falls into Ellis County. The city sits along U.S. Highway 67 that connects to IH-35 and IH-30 and offers quick access to downtown Dallas in 20 minutes and downtown Fort Worth in 35 minutes. Demographics
In line with its name, Cedar Hill has lots of high hills that host most of the antennas for local radio and TV stations. Its population is widely diverse with an estimated 46,663 residents. The median household income is $67,299 compared to $49,481 for Dallas County. The median age of the population is 32 years of age. For the population 25 years and older, 91.5% have high school diplomas or higher and 31.9% have associate’s degrees or higher compared to 77% and 29% respectively for Dallas County.
Schools
The Cedar Hill Independent School District (ISD) is a Recognized 5A district with 14 schools that serve most of the city’s 8,258 students. Part of the city is also serviced by Duncanville ISD, Midlothian ISD, and four private schools. Cedar Hill is also home to Northwood University, a private four-year university. In addition, there are over 35 universities and community colleges in the surrounding Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex.
Employment
The largest employers in Cedar Hill are the public school district, retailers, distribution centers, and city government. With its central location in the DFW Metroplex, access to employment opportunities of many Fortune 500 companies is a short commute away.
