Lancaster is part of the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex, which consists of 12 counties and over 200 cities and towns including Dallas and Fort Worth. Downtown Dallas can be reached in approximately 15 minutes while Fort Worth is a slightly longer commute at 40 minutes. Lancaster is positioned near IH-35E to the west, IH-20 to the north, and IH- 45 to the east which provides multiple access points in and around the DFW Metroplex. Demographics

The population of Lancaster is 37,893 (as of 2014 census data) and has grown over 5% since 2009. The median household income is $48,000 compared to $49,481 for Dallas County.  The median age of the population is 32 years of age. Schools

The Lancaster Independent School District (LISD) is the primary district and serves an estimated 6,172 students. The LISD consists of eleven campuses: seven elementary schools, one sixth grade center, one middle school, one high school, and an alternative school. The Dallas Independent School District serves a small portion of the city. Lancaster is also home to Cedar Valley College; a two year community college that is part of the Dallas County Community College District. In addition, there are over 35 universities and community colleges in the surrounding Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex.

Employment

The largest employment sectors in Lancaster are in the fields of public education, retail, higher education, and manufacturing distribution. With its excellent positioning to major highways and interstates, access to employment opportunities of many Fortune 500 companies are a short commute within the DFW Metroplex.
